The Grey Woods Clan
In order to become a true Wolf Shaman of the Grey Woods Clan, a shifter must pass what is called the Rite of Blood. During this rite, the initiate enters the Grove of the Spirits, the oldest part of the Grey Woods, the place where the Ancestor Spirits dwell. The Ancestor Spirits are beings from which the Grey Woods shifters descended: the most feral, most courageous, and most deadly wolves, men, and wolf-men, the ones who kept the bloodline of the clan alive through war with other clans, famine, drought, and other hardships.
Into the grove the initiate enters, but he or she must carry with him or her a token of devotion: one pint of blood, no more no less, within the bone cup of Brook the Omega, blood traitor to the clan. If the spirits accept the initiate, they will consume the blood and allow him or he to begin the training. If his or her heart is not pure, however: the spirits will feast on it instead.
The training takes months, or years, depending. A time without time. During the training the initiate walks, eats, sleeps, and hunts in the Grey Woods with the Ancestor Spirits, learning to work with them, as part of them, learning from their wisdom and cunning. Every generation, the spirits choose an Alpha Shaman, a champion of the clan, the One to stand against Evil. It is said the Alpha Shaman shall be known by his or her uncanny connection to the spirits from birth, that he or she shall speak to them with the ease with which he or she speaks to his or her parents, and that he or she shall be the most cunning and most courageous initiate of his or her generation.
